Have you heard of the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge?
Of course you have.
The movement that's sweeping the nation started right here in Massachusetts, inspired by former Boston College Eagles baseball player Peter Frates.
Frates was diagnosed with the disease in the Spring of 2012. He initially rallied his friends and family to the cause, but now the people around the country are stepping up to the challenge.
CSNNE caught up with his mother, Nancy Frates, to discuss the cause.
"The treatment and cure [of ALS] is the ultimate goal," said Frates' mother, Nancy. "But for him to inspire this incredible phenomenon is overwhelming to say the least. But not that surprising to those who know him."
The Ice Bucket Challenge has helped raise more than $15.5 million in just three weeks.
