With Kevin Durant coming to town on Friday, and Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett heading here for Sunday, it got us to thinking about "what ifs?" on Early Edition.
What if . . . the Celtics got the No. 2 pick in the NBA Draft and drafted Kevin Durant? If that happened, there's a good chance Paul Pierce gets traded away for other rebuilding pieces. The C's would also have kept Al Jefferson, Gerald Green, and their draft picks, meaning there would be no Kevin Garnett in Boston.
There would also be no Banner 17 - at least not during the 2007-08 season.
BUT . . . you'd have a career of Kevin Durant in Boston, and who knows how that would play out over the years. You'd still have Rajon Rondo, too.
So, would you do it? If you could, would you trade the 2007-08 championship (and the Big Three era) for Kevin Durant and the endless possibilities that come with him?
