Would the Celtics have been better off dealing Allen?

According to a Yahoo! report, the Celtics were very close to dealing Ray Allen to Memphis for OJ Mayo and a draft pick. They were so close, in fact, that they called Allen to tell him he had been dealt. At the last minute, the deal fell through.

It would have been interesting to see how the Celtics would be without Allen in the locker room. They've proven they can play without him. They have a winning record when he's out of the lineup, and Avery Bradley has been a more-than-serviceable starter since it was decided Allen would come off of the bench.
