Do the Celtics have a chance to beat the Knicks? Eh, well . . . history says no. Even though the Celtics have gained some ground by cutting New York's series advantage to 3-1, there hasn't been a team in the history of the league that has come all the way back from a 3-0 deficit to win a series.
Sports Illustrated's Ian Thomsen says the reason it's never happened before -- even though it's happened in the NHL and MLB -- is because the NBA is unique in that the best teams are consistently the best, from start to finish.
"The NBA playoffs, they're the one sport where the postseason reflects the regular season," Thomsen said. "You almost never see teams come out of nowhere. A team with a losing record never wins the finals the way it might in hockey or baseball."
He added: "There are more variables that change in other sports than there are in the NBA."
