UPDATE AT 5:49 P.M. -- Comcast SportsNet's Greg Dickerson reported that Pierce will, indeed, sit out Tuesday night's game.
CHARLOTTE, N.C. — In the latest installment of "Strategic Rest: The 2013 edition," there's a chance that the Celtics will sit Paul Pierce tonight against the Charlotte Bobcats.
Celtics coach Doc Rivers has said that there will come a time at some point this season when he will look to give the captain a game off. Pierce, the C's top scorer at 18.7 points per game, is the lone Celtic to start every game this season.
When asked this morning by Comcast SportsNet how close was he to getting a game off, Pierce chuckled, "Closer than you guys think."
The absence of Pierce would most likely put Jeff Green in the starting lineup. Green has appeared in all 62 games this season for the Celtics, with one start. In Green's lone start, a 113-88 win over Phoenix on Feb. 22, Green had a season-high 31 points along with seven rebounds, four assists and a career-high five blocked shots.
On that night, Green started in place of Kevin Garnett who was given the night off to rest.
