WALTHAM, Mass. — Celtics coach Brad Stevens saw the same tweet from Rajon Rondo that sent the basketball world in a slight tizzy.

The tweet, which was posted on Rondo's verified Twitter account at 11:42 p.m. Monday night, read "29,233,380 secs."

That is approximately the amount of time between Rondo's season-ending surgery on Jan. 25 and Friday, which is reportedly his target date to return from his torn right ACL injury.

"I thought it was how many people go back for Thanksgiving seconds," quipped Stevens. "He (Rondo) told me I was wrong. I'm still trying to figure out what it means."

Rondo, who declined to speak with the media following Tuesday's practice, is as coy with his coach as he is with the media it seems.

"He's obviously . . . he's a pretty bright guy," Stevens said. "He shares his thoughts in unique ways."

That said, Stevens said Rondo won't play Wednesday against Toronto but added that the team is "playing for the very short term without him. Hopefully we'll have him back very soon."

Instead of playing Wednesday, Stevens said Rondo will undergo a strenuous workout sometime on Wednesday.

Stevens will not run the workout, but said he does plan to observe it.

When asked what he's looking to see in Rondo, Stevens replied, "Looking for his thumb to go up. That's his call, along with our trainers, and our doctors and everybody else. There's no basketball boxes that need to be checked with him."

There have been no cut-and-dried decisions made as to whether Rondo will have minutes restrictions upon his return.

"I'm guessing there will be a minutes restriction," Stevens said. "We'll figure that out when it comes."
