Flip Saunders' answering machine is probably at full capacity.
The GM and coach of the Minnesota Timberwolves is doing what he can to keep Kevin Love in Minnesota, but it appears less and less likely as the minutes go by.
Love knows it, Saunders knows it, and apparently every other GM in the NBA knows it.
And more than half are very interested.
Saunders told the Star Tribune, "We probably have 16 teams that have called us. We haven't called anybody."
It shouldn't be much of a surprise to see that many interested GMs. It's not too often that one of the premier players in the league is on the trade block.
That said, while lots of GMs may have interest, only a handful will really have a legitimate shot at trading enough pieces for Love while still feeling like they have a chance to re-sign him.
Boston looks like one of those teams. They have some young players, they have the ability to free up Minnesota cap space, and they have a plethora of draft picks. Add that to the fact that Kevin Love came to visit Boston - and appeared to enjoy his time - and Boston remains an option.
Saunders said of Love's trip to Boston, “I don’t think [the] Boston [Celtics] had anything to do with it. But I don’t know."
Come on, Flip! You know!
Of course, the C's aren't the only team with the ability to offer a good package. Houston will make a run, as will Chicago, Golden State, and a few others. Love is a California guy, so who knows.
