When the Celtics traded Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce to the Brooklyn Nets, they got a lot of players in return that didn't look to have futures with the team. But one player, Marshon Brooks, could be an exception.

Bob Ryan thinks he could the "X-factor".

"Marshon Brooks was a very good rookie, did not fit well with whatever P.J. Carlesimo wanted last year. Had a down year. He is a scoring machine when playing well. Interested to see if he has any appeal to Brad Stevens."

Gary Tanguay agrees with Ryan.

"I think he is the one guy in that deal that could be part of the future because of what you said," Tanguay said. "I know he can definitely score. Maybe if he can get in the back court with Rondo they can be dangerous, we'll have to wait and see."

And the C's look like they're going to wait and see on Stevens, who Celtics GM Danny Ainge signed to six-year deal right off the bat. But while people rave about Stevens, Ryan warns that he has plenty to learn about the NBA.

"He's heard it all. He hasn't lived it," Ryan said. "He hasn't been in February and playing four games in five nights. Or you have nine guys that are healthy to practice and you have to suit up. He hasn't been through that, he hasn't been through all kinds of circumstances that the NBA presents. And above the personality thug, the pro athlete thing that he's never dealt with, he's got a lot to learn."
