RIVERS TO L.A.

Doc Rivers is officially a former Celtics head coach.

Rivers will take a head coaching and senior VP of basketball operations job with the Clippers, and be introduced as such Wednesday.

But Rivers knows that he's leaving a lot behind, and that goes past the practice courts in Waltham, MA and at the TD Garden.

He spoke with ESPNBoston.com earlier on Tuesday.

"I always knew when I took the job with Boston that I would love the Celtics," Rivers said. "I knew I would love the tradition and the players. But I had no idea how much I would fall in love with the city and the people in it. Honestly, I get emotional thinking about it. I will cherish every single moment I had in Boston."

Rivers will hold a conference call with Boston media after he is introduced on Wednesday, but notes that the decision to leave wasn't an easy one.

"It was just time … I'll explain it to everyone then. But to say I was dying to get out of Boston, dying to leave the Celtics is just wrong. That's not how it was. That's not how I felt."
