The trade rumors will only heat up as the NBA's trade deadline approaches this Thursday at 3:00 PM.
The latest involves Rajon Rondo and the Kings, although it appears that it won't be happening.
Yahoo! Sports' Marc Spears had this little nugget next to the Celtics' name in his power rankings released on Monday: "Source said Kings and C's discussed a deal involving Isaiah Thomas, Ben McLemore and a pick for Rajon Rondo, but Rondo wasn't interested in re-signing with Sacramento and the Kings strongly value McLemore."
Earlier on Sunday we heard from our very own A. Sherrod Blakely that it would take two first round draft picks and a young, borderline All-Star to pry Rondo away from the Celtics.
While the Kings' deal had just one pick, the fact that it included McLemore, who was drafted No. 7 overall in this year's NBA Draft, pretty much makes up for that. Thomas has had a breakout season for the Kings after being passed up by every NBA team in the 2011 NBA draft and being picked No. 60. Thomas is also very good friends with Celtics shooting guard Avery Bradley, as the two grew up together in Washington. The knock on Thomas is that he is undersized for the NBA, standing at 5-foot-9.
Based on Spears' information, it's hard to say if the C's approached Sacramento, or vice versa. It's also hard to say if Ainge would have done the deal if Rondo did in fact have interest in re-signing in Sacramento.
Nonetheless, it's one of the many rumors we'll be hearing about over the next few days.
