Reggie Lewis passed away at the young age of 27 in July 1993 after he collapsed on the court during an offseason practice. He had suffered from heart problems prior, and a panel of analysts wondered if his death could have been prevented.
Based on what the doctors told him, what was told to the media and everything going on, it is unclear if there were more things that led to Lewis' death (e.g. drug use). Dr. Gilbert Mudge told Lewis he had a "normal athlete's heart" months before Lewis passed away, but Lewis had shown unusual symptoms earlier.
"There was more things going on than we always knew about," Jackie MacMullan said of Lewis' condition.
