Pierce named player of the week

BOSTONYet another sign that the Boston Celtics' fortunes are indeed improving, Paul Pierce was named Eastern Conference Player of the Week - the first Celtic to be honored this season. San Antonio's Tony Parker was the award winner this week in the Western Conference.

In leading the Celtics to a 4-0 week, Pierce averaged 22 points, 6.3 assists and 5.8 rebounds.

Pierce has indeed regained his all-star caliber form after beginning the season with a heel injury - an injury he told CSNNE.com occurred a couple days prior to the start of training camp - that sidelined for all but one preseason practice and the first three games of the regular season.

"I'm getting more comfortable, getting my legs more conditioned to where I can play better and longer stretches," Pierce said recently. "Before I was playing on wobbly legs. I'm definitely getting better."

And so are the Celtics (13-10). They come into Tuesday's game against Charlotte with a four game winning streak, and victories in eight of their last nine games.

For the season, Pierce is averaging a team-best 18.6 points, 5.5 rebounds and 5.5 assists per game.
