Former teammates have high praise for Pietrus

Over the past eight seasons, Mickael Pietrus has been on the opposing team at the TD Garden as a member of the Golden State Warriors, Orlando Magic, and Phoenix Suns.

The newly acquired swingman expects to make his debut with the Boston Celtics on Wednesday against the Dallas Mavericks.

Before he suits up in green, his former teammates shared insight into what Celtics fans could expect from Pietrus this season.

Hes a great defender, Washington Wizards forward and former Magic teammate Rashard Lewis recently told CSNNE.com. Also, hes underrated for scoring but I think he can score the ball very well. Hes a great three-point shooter, he goes to the basket pretty hard, but hes one of those guys thats good for a team like the Boston Celtics. Of course hell probably be used to defend on his team, but hell give you some offense too. Hell surprise you some nights and give you big offensive nights that will really help the team win ball games.

Like Lewis, Celtics forward Brandon Bass played with Pietrus in Orlando. They made multiple playoff runs together and saw his skills off the bench firsthand.

Pietrus has a career average of 8.5 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 0.8 assists per game. He has shot 43.1 percent from the field and 35.9 percent from three-point range during his time in the NBA.

I think that he knows what he does well, Bass told CSNNE.com. Hes a great defender and hes a spot-up shooter. I think hell be another great defensive player. Hes a good three-point shooter, too, so I think he will add defense and spot-up three-point shooting.

Bass described Pietrus as a laidback go-with-the-flow guy who accepted his role off the bench. In the locker room, Lewis recalls him being a character who knew how to be lighthearted and hardworking at the same time.

He was a good teammate, a funny guy, almost like a class clown, said Lewis. He made a lot of jokes in the locker room, but one of the guys that did his job when he got on the court.
