BOSTON -- Ray Allen is one of the most routine players in the NBA, so its no surprise he stays consistent in other facets of his life, including naming his children.
On Wednesday, Allen and his wife Shannon welcomed their fourth son, Wystan Ryan Allen. Sidelined with a jammed left ankle, the Celtics guard did not travel with the team to Orlando for a game against the Magic and was at the hospital to videotape the birth.
When it came time to choose a name, Allen wanted to continue the tradition of his sons having the same initials. Wystan is youngest brother of Walter (Ray) III, Walker, and Wynn.
We had a lot of advice and a lot of names being said because all of our boys are W.R.A, Allen said prior to Fridays game against the Indiana Pacers. We scoured every W name we could.
Among those suggestions included one from teammate Mickael Pietrus to name his son Windmill, as in the dunk. That name did not make the cut.
We got down to that day in the hospital and we had our top three or four and we talked about how the nicknames kids would give him and kind of what life would be like if we gave him something crazy and what we would call him, he said. Probably what gave that name top seed was the fact that our last son born was Wynn. Our first two sons are Wal, so this was, Wy. Thats kind of how we rationalized it.
Allen thinks Wystan will be nicknamed either Wys or Wiz. As for the middle name Ryan, there was a thought behind that, too.

We came up with a couple different Rs that made sense and flowed together, he said before adding in jest, When you get mad at your son youve got to throw that middle name in, so we had to make sure it rolled off our tongue correctly so hed kind of understand that he was in deep water.
