It may seem like they're only been teammates for a few years, but Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett go way back.
Further than the 2007 trade that brought Garnett to Boston. Further than the championship they won in that first year together in Boston.
The two played basketball together in high school, and Garnett recalled crashing at Pierce's house. They graduated in 1995 and went on separate paths. Pierce to college, and Garnett right into the NBA.
Neither dreamed they would be able to team up again. In fact, Pierce recalls wondering if he himself would be traded in the summer of 2007, but instead it was Garnett who changed teams and in so do, reunited with his high school teammate.
On Wednesday, the old friends made history together.
Kevin Garnett moved into 15th place on the all-time scoring list. Paul Pierce moved into 20th place.
The historical accomplishments are nice, but their history together runs even deeper.
"It makes it even more special because we talk about when we played together, when we were 15 years old," said Pierce.
Now, the focus is on finishing the season strong and winning another championship together.
