With Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett, and Jason Terry now gone, Rajon Rondo has suddenly emerged as the veteran leader of the Celtics locker room.
The 27-year old point guard is currently the closest thing to a superstar on the Celtics roster, having led the NBA in assists per game the last two seasons, and has been named to the NBA’s All-defensive team four times in his seven-year career.
With his dealings in recent days, Danny Ainge has sent the message that Rondo will be the player he will build the next great Celtics roster around. In doing that, it’s up to the C’s to make sure he wants to stay around.
“Right now, with no coach, you need to make your superstar happy,” said Donny Marshall on Thursday night’s Celtics Draft Special , “and the way you do that is you ask Rondo, ‘What would you like?’”
