MINNEAPOLIS, MN -- The Memphis Grizzlies have added another former Celtic to their roster in the form of Keyon Dooling.

On Monday, the veteran guard signed with the Grizzlies for the remainder of this season.

Dooling had re-signed with the Celtics for the 2012-2013 season, but shortly before the start of training camp he decided to retire and later took a job with the Celtics' organization.

While that desire to spend more time with his family was a major pull towards retirement, he soon discovered that the itch to continue playing was still there.

And his agent, Kenge Stevenson, said the Grizzlies were the primary NBA team that expressed strong interest in adding Dooling.

With all the injuries that have impacted the Celtics' backcourt, there was some talk that Dooling might return to the C's this season. However, Stevenson told CSNNE.com that the language within the buyout settlement that Dooling reached with Boston upon his retirement, prevented him from re-signing with the C's this season.

That said, Stevenson made it clear that Dooling's departure from Boston will indeed be a bittersweet time in his life.

He gets to continue pursuing his love of the game, but at the same time he leaves an organization that he has a tremendous amount of respect and admiration for.

"He's Boston to the heart," Stevenson told CSNNE.com in a phone interview on Monday. "The way the team, the city has treated him. There was a mutual respect. He wouldn't trade his time in Boston for anything in the world."
