Jeff Green Talks about playing in front of Dr. Svensson, who performed his heart surgery at the Mayo Clinic in Cleveland last year
Greg Dickerson talks with Dr. Svensson during last night's game about performing the surgery on Jeff Green and Celtics center Chris Wilcox last season
While NBA fans packed Quicken Loans Arena Wednesday night in Cleveland to watch the Cavaliers host the Celtics, one of them had a tie to two players that nobody else had.
Dr. Lars Svensson performed both heart surgeries on Celtics players Jeff Green and Chris Wilcox last season, and was on hand to watch them play. Dr. Svensson undoubtedly liked what he saw, as Green finished with 21 points, seven rebounds, and five assists, and Wilcox finished with six points and six rebounds - both as starters.
Oh, and Green hit the game-winning shot at the buzzer.
As Green made his exit from the court, he stopped to give Dr. Svensson a hug. The two undoubtedly caught up sometime after the game as well.
During the game, CSNNE's Greg Dickerson spoke with Dr. Svensson about the surgeries, and if he's at all surprised at how the two players responded to it.
"Well obviously they're in super condition," Dr. Svennson said. "It was a structural problem that we just had to fix up with them. It was something that I think I expected that they would be able to get back to playing again. I think for them it was the psychological hurdle of getting back the stamina, psychologically being able to play at this level of competition again. I think it's a credit to both of them."
