Gasper: Will playoffs help Celtics land free agents?

The Boston Celtics are playoff bound and there is once again a buzz surrounding the Green Team.

In terms of the Celtics' rebuild, Gary Tanguay and Chris Gasper agreed that the team is a superstar away from being a legitimate threat.

Despite the Celtics' growth this season, Gasper doesn't see a big-time free agent coming to Boston any time soon.

"Here's the plus argument of making the playoffs. If there's some free agent out there, whether it's Kawhi Leonard, Jimmy Butler or somebody who looks at this team, Kevin Love, and says, 'boy, they made the playoffs. The East looks kind of soft. If I go to this team, we have a real chance to contend in the east,'" said Gasper. "It's a great advertising with Brad Stevens and Danny Ainge. Can they look at it that way? Will it help them draw a free agent? If you tell me at the end of the summer that's what ended up happening, I'll change my tune. But I'm just not convinced that's going to be the case."

Gary Tanguay agrees that there is more to a free agent's decision-making process than a chance to contend in the playoffs.

"It takes more than 'can they win?' It's also the city and the climate. We know where young NBA players like to go. They like to go to Dallas, Miami and Los Angeles. It's a Hollywood-type league. That's where they like to go. They don't want to go to towns like Boston."
