BOSTON — The long-awaited return of Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce to the TD Garden is tonight . . . sort of.

Both were with their new Brooklyn Nets teammates at their shoot-around this morning, but neither will play tonight.

"I'm keeping my streak alive of not talking after the morning shoot-around in Boston," Pierce told with a smile.

Not surprisingly, both players will not make their official return to the Garden to play until the Celtics host the Nets on Jan. 26.

Another former Celtic sent to Brooklyn in the blockbuster deal this summer, Jason Terry (knee), will make his preseason debut tonight for the Nets.

"It'll be cool for me," Terry said. "I haven't played since we lost to the Knicks (in Game 6 of the Eastern Conference first round of the playoffs last year) on this same floor. That's going to be exciting for me."

Terry added, "Avery Bradley, he's like a brother to me; Brandon Bass . . . those are friends. There's no ill feelings. This is more of a welcome home, so to speak."
