BOSTON — Kevin Garnett will not play in tonight's game against the Charlotte Bobcats, but it's not just to give him some additional rest.

Celtics coach Doc Rivers declined to specify exactly what's bothering Garnett health-wise, but did say that his absence tonight has to do with him "not moving well" in Friday's practice.

A team official later said that Garnett is suffering from a lower adductor (groin) strain and is being listed as day-to-day.

When asked if he felt it might be a long-term injury, Rivers said, "I don't think so."

But the injury does put Garnett's availability in doubt heading into Monday's highly anticipated matchup against the Miami Heat.

This will be the second game Garnett will miss this season. But the previous absence was specifically to give him the night off. And the C's responded with a dominant performance in defeating Phoenix, 113-88.

Replacing Garnett tonight in the starting lineup will be Jeff Green, whose season-high 31 points came against the Suns when he had to replace Garnett as a starter on Feb. 22.
