WALTHAM, Mass. — The two-week timeline suggested by the Celtics for Kevin Garnett's return would put him back on the floor any day now. That day won't be tonight, with Garnett not in attendance at the Celtics' shootaround.

His absence alone doesn't necessarily rule him out for tonight's game against Detroit, but considering the length of his layoff, it's highly unlikely Doc Rivers and the Celtics would bring him back without having a shootround the day of the game.

Garnett has missed Boston's last six games due to inflammation in his left foot. The injury occurred against the Dallas Mavericks on March 22.

Shortly after the injury, the Celtics said that Garnett would be sidelined for at least two weeks with the injury.

From the time of the injury -- the Mavs game on March 22 -- that would put Garnett's possible return to the floor on Friday against the Cleveland Cavaliers.

However, Garnett did travel with the C's on their road game at New York on Sunday. Often when Celtics players are injured, when they join the team on road trips, it's an indicator that they will be returning to action soon.

While Rivers did say that Garnett is improving, he added that nothing should be read into him being with the team during their recent road trip.
