The Boston Celtics addressed their need for size by signing big man D.J. White to a 10-day contract. The 6-foot-9, 235-pound power forward is returning to the NBA after playing this season in China. Get to know the 26-year-old with these 15 factoids.

1. White was born Dewayne White, Jr.

2. His birthday is August 31, 1986, three days after Jeff Green.

3. White is just the second person born in Tuscaloosa, Alabama to play in the NBA. The other was Stan Kimbrough. He is also the only graduate from Hillcrest High School to play in the NBA.

4. White played four years at Indiana University, where he was teammates with newly acquired Celtic Jordan Crawford during the 2007-08 season.

5. The Detroit Pistons selected White with the 29th pick in the 2008 NBA Draft. The Celtics had the following pick. They chose J.R. Giddens at number 30.

6. White is being reunited with two of his former NBA teammates on the Celtics. On Draft Night 2008 the Pistons traded White to the Seattle SuperSonics, where he played with Jeff Green and Chris Wilcox.

7. White faced obstacles his rookie season when he had to undergo two surgeries to remove a benign growth from his jaw. He only played seven games for the Thunder in his first year.

8. In 2011, the Oklahoma City Thunder traded White to the Charlotte Bobcats on the same day they Green dealt to the Celtics in the Kendrick Perkins deal.

9. Over his NBA career, White has averaged 6.3 points (50.7% FG, 73.0% FT) and 3.4 rebounds in 16.3 minutes in 124 games (11 starts).

10. White also has D-League experience. He played 16 games for the Tulsa 66ers over two seasons.

11. This season White signed a one-year contract with the Shanghai Sharks in China. Prior to  going overseas, White worked out with several NBA teams, including the Celtics.

12. White averaged a team-high 21.6 points (56.5% FG) and 9.7 rebounds in 33.0 minutes this season for the Sharks.

13. While in playing in China, White faced now-teammate Terrence Williams when the Sharks played the Guangdong Southern Tigers.

14. White will wear number 12 for the Celtics, also worn this season by Leandro Barbosa. He previously wore numbers three and eight on the Thunder and Bobcats.
