When the Boston Celtics won the NBA Championship in 2008, they traveled to Las Vegas to see a Manny Pacquiao fight, beginning a relationship between the boxer and the players. Over the years Pacquiao sent autographed boxing gloves to the C's locker room and even scheduled a fight around their Game 7 Eastern Conference Finals game against the Miami Heat in 2012.
The Celtics past and present still continue to be drawn to showstopping fights. This weekend they once again returned to Las Vegas for the highly anticipated Mayweather - Alvarez battle.
Former Celtics Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett were in town for the match, also seen snapping photos with Magic Johnson. Garnett had four tickets to the fight, according to Chris Mannix of SI, who also tweeted: "Kevin Garnett, by the way, is jumping out of his seat every time Floyd throws a power shot."
Like his former teammates, Brandon Bass traveled out west. The Celtics forward posted a photo on Instagram from the airport with the caption, "Just touchdown! #mayweathervscanelo #vegas #couldntmissthisone."
Former NBA players Charles Barkley, Jalen Rose, Gregg Anthony as well as the Golden State Warriors David Lee were also among those in attendance.
