WALTHAM, Mass. — The Boston Celtics plan to fill one of their vacant roster spots by signing Development League standout Chris Johnson to a 10-day contract.

Danny Ainge, Boston's president of basketball operations, said the Celtics would sign the 6-foot-6 small forward on Friday.

"Chris has been playing very well," Ainge said. "We need a wing player, someone that can shoot the ball. So Chris will add some depth to our team now."

Johnson, who played for the Rio Grande Valley Vipers of the D-League, appeared in 20 games (all starts) for the Vipers while averaging 19.4 points and 6.8 rebounds per game. He also shot 36.7 percent on 3s and 47 percent from the field.
