LAS VEGAS -- Nearly 2,800 miles from Boston, former Celtics players and staff members convened at NBA Las Vegas Summer League, this year playing for and representing new teams. Get up-to-date with those who made stops in Boston and discover where they are in their NBA careers.

The Players

Dionte Christmas - After being waived by the Celtics prior to training camp last season, Christmas returned overseas to play in Russia and Italy. He is back in Las Vegas this summer, fighting to earn a spot in the NBA on the Phoenix Suns team. (He also played for the Utah Jazz team in Orlando). The front staff is already familiar with Christmas -- former Celtics assistant general manager Ryan McDonough is now the Suns GM.

Micah Downs - When Rajon Rondo suffered a season-ending injury in January, Downs' name was mentioned in the mix of potential new additions to the Celtics. The former Maine Red Claw played for the Indiana Pacers in Orlando and the Toronto Raptors in Las Vegas. He has already signed a contract to play in Ukraine, but does have an out clause should an NBA team express interest.

Luke Harangody - Harangody played only half of his rookie season with the Celtics before being traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2011. He has since played in the Development League and is looking to return to the NBA this summer with the Denver Nuggets squad.

Lester Hudson - The Celtics drafted Hudson with the 58th pick in 2009 and waived him shortly before his contract was guaranteed. After playing for the Memphis Grizzlies, Washington Wizards, Cleveland Cavaliers, and teams in China, Hudson is trying to make his mark this summer on the Los Angeles Lakers team.

J.R. Giddens - The former 30th pick in the 2008 NBA Draft played his first his rookie season for the Celtics before being traded to the New York Knicks during his second year. Since then Giddens has played overseas in Greece and Italy. This summer he is a member of the Miami Heat's Las Vegas squad.

Matt Janning - Three years ago Janning competed on the Celtics 2010 Las Vegas Summer League team. After being waived that year by the Phoenix Suns, he made a career for himself in Europe. Janning is playing for the Chicago Bulls team (as well as the Brooklyn Nets team in Orlando) under the watchful eye of former Celtics assistant coach-turned Bulls head coach Tom Thibodeau.

Chris Johnson - The lanky center earned a 10-day contract with the Celtics in 2011. After various stints around the NBA and D-League, Johnson signed on with the Minnesota Timberwolves for the second half of last season and is playing for their summer league team.

JaJuan Johnson - Last July Johnson learned he had been traded from the Celtics to the Houston Rockets as part of the Courtney Lee deal shortly before a game. The Rockets then waived him, and he played out last season for three Development League teams. This summer Johnson returned to Las Vegas looking to earn a spot with the Clippers squad, led by several of his former coaches from the C's. He was also on the Detroit Pistons summer league roster in Orlando.

Dwayne Jones - Jones appeared in 14 games for the Celtics during the 2005-06 season as a rookie. Years later, he is battling for a spot on the opposite coast. Jones, now 30, is a member of the Golden State Warriors summer league team.

Marcus Landry - Landry was a member of the Celtics for less than two months during the 2009-10 season after being acquired as part of the Nate Robinson trade from the New York Knicks. He has since made a career overseas, and is showcasing his skills this summer for the Los Angeles Lakers team.

Jarvis Varnado - Varado was waived by the Celtics this season and went on to earn a championship ring with the Miami Heat. This month he suited up for summer league as a title winner, playing for the Heat's team in Orlando and Las Vegas.

The Players Turned Coaches

Sam Cassell - Cassell has become a familiar face at UNLV as head coach of the Washington Wizards summer league squad. He joined the Wizards staff as an assistant coach following the end of his championship-winning career.

James Posey - More than two years after playing his last NBA game, the Cleveland native is working for the coaching staff of his hometown Cavaliers this summer.

Brian Scalabrine - After a year in broadcasting following his NBA career, Scalabrine returned to the game as an assistant coach for the Golden State Warriors. He is joining the team on the sidelines this week.

The Coaches

Doc Rivers/Tyronn Lue/Armond Hill/JP Clark - Rivers checked out summer league games for the first time as head coach of the Los Angeles Clippers. His staff was deep with former Celtics coaches -- Lue (summer league head coach) and Hill left Boston to join Rivers in LA, as did Clark, who had been an assistant coach for the Maine Red Claws.

Darren Erman - Years ago Erman was a coaching assistant for the Celtics and helped Scalabrine on the court. Today, they are sharing the bench as coaches for the Golden State Warriors. Erman is the head coach of the Warriors summer league team.

Mike Longabardi - One of the Celtics defensive masterminds left Boston this summer to join the Phoenix Suns as an assistant coach, working under former Celtics front office executive Ryan McDonough.

Tom Thibodeau - Now entering his fourth season as head coach of the Bulls, the former Celtics assistant coach kept a watchful eye of his team -- and the rest of the competition -- during long hours at UNLV.

The Front Office

Ryan McDonough - Credited with urging the drafting of Rajon Rondo and Avery Bradley, McDonough made the next step in his front office career in May when he was hired as general manager of the Phoenix Suns. He experienced his first summer league as GM this year.

Antoine Walker - Walker made a brief trip to check out summer league games before returning to Chicago. He spoke about his interest to get involved in coaching, which he tweeted about following Rivers' departure.
