It's official now. The Boston Celtics have completed a three-team trade that sends Courtney Lee and a 2016 second-round pick to the Memphis Grizzlies in exchange for Jerryd Bayless.

The Celtics also received former Celtic Ryan Gomes from Oklahoma City, but Boston has since waived him.

Bayless is expected to join the Celtics at some point during their current West coast trip, with the earliest he might see action being tonight at Denver.

Although Bayless has been a player that Boston has had interest in before, this deal was motivated in large part by the financial savings it would provide Boston.

Bayless makes $3.1 million this season which is more than $2 million less than Lee's $5.225 million salary. In addition, Bayless is a free agent this summer while Lee's contract hast two years worth more than $11 million remaining after this season.

The addition of Bayless gives the Celtics another ball-handler who can run an offense, although Bayless' strength lies in his ability to make shots.

Boston knows this all too well.

In two games against the Celtics this season, Bayless averaged 18.5 points while shooting 54.5 percent from the field.

Bayless will compete with Keith Bogans for the minutes left up for grabs with Lee's departure.

Bogans played a season-high 14 minutes on Sunday while scoring three points -- his first points as a Celtic.

It may also afford an opportunity down the road for MarShon Brooks who has been lighting it up since the Celtics assigned him to their D-League affiliate, the Maine Red Claws.

In his first three games with Maine, Brooks has averaged 29 points per game.
