PHILADELPHIA Strategic rest: The preseason edition is in effect for the Boston Celtics who will sit Kevin Garnett for tonight's game against Philadelphia in addition to limiting the minutes of Paul Pierce.

"Didn't want to play him (Garnett) back-to-back games" was the reason Rivers gave for shutting Garnett down for the night.

As for Pierce, limiting his minutes will give the C's slew of wing forwards with non-guaranteed contracts an opportunity to play more minutes.

That will not only help those players, but it also allows Rivers and his staff a better chance to evaluate which players they will keep around moving forward.

Philadelphia native Dionte Christmas is the odds-on favorite to land a guaranteed deal among the C's without guaranteed contracts for this upcoming season.

"I'm just trying to continue to play my game, help this team win and hopefully everything will work out," Christmas told CSNNE.com.
