Boston Celtics head coach Brad Stevens will get a much closer look at a seldom-used backcourt combination with Avery Bradley and Jerryd Bayless in the starting lineup tonight against the Dallas Mavericks.

The Celtics head coach opted to start Bayless ahead of 5-foot-11 rookie Phil Pressey while Rajon Rondo (rest) will sit out tonight's game.

And Bradley, still working his way back into shape after missing 13 games with a right ankle sprain, will get the start after coming off the bench in Boston's two previous games.

"Avery has started a large chunk of the season," Stevens told reporters prior to Monday night's game against the Mavericks. "Jerryd has been playing well in the starting lineup."

In 14 games this season as a starter, Bayless has averaged 11 points compared to eight coming off the bench.

But Stevens added there was more that went into his decision.

"We've seen Phil and Avery, and Phil and Jerryd. We really haven't had a chance to see Jerryd and Avery together much," Stevens said.

The two have appeared in the same game 11 times this season, playing a total of 84 minutes together.

"I would like to put Avery on the point guards a little bit more," Stevens said. "Can't do that with Phil in the game with him. So that's one of the things that contributed (to the decision to start Bayless)."
