Blakely: NBA mid-year awards

ORLANDO, Fla.You don't win a championship by playing half a season, but that doesn't mean you should completely blow off recognizing the best of the best as we hit the unofficial midway point.

In this condensed season, we've seen some pretty amazing things.

We've seen future Hall of Famers like Kobe Bryant and here in Boston with Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce, move up the career leader boards of their respective teams and the league as a whole. There have been amazing performances, how-did-he-do-that? dunks from folks not named Blake Griffin, and superstars emerge from nowhere to shine brightly (Jeremy Lin), while the glare of stardom dims far too soon for others (Brandon Roy).

And to thinkwe've still got another couple months before the playoffs.

But let's not get too far ahead of ourselves.

Let's enjoy what we have seen thus, and acknowledge those individuals who have stood out -- in a good way, mind you -- this season.
