BOSTON — One game after starting Jason Terry, Doc Rivers has gone back to his previous lineup with Brandon Bass at the power forward position.

The move in Game 3 was to free up Avery Bradley, but Rivers is switching it back in hopes to contain Knicks forward Carmelo Anthony.

"I just like Brandon on Melo more," Rivers said prior to Game 4. "Again, like I said yesterday, the smaller lineup the numbers actually say it's better, but I like our defense better the other way."

The Knicks have some lineup issues to figure out as well, although having more to do with their bench. J.R. Smith has been suspended for Game 4 after an elbow to Jason Terry, so New York loses its best scorer off the bench.

"He's one of their other guys that can create shots," Rivers said. "Especially in the playoffs … You think about what we've done good in this series, the Knicks are being held under 13 points under their normal average, and J.R. Smith has played well. Because in the playoffs you take teams out of their stuff, and then it comes down to guys creating shots for themselves and others. Well, Melo does that,[Raymond] Felton has done that, and J.R. Smith does that. Now they don't have one of those guys."
