BOSTON — The New York Knicks have yet to officially announce what capacity Phil Jackson will take with the franchise, but their star player confirmed that the Zen Master was, "coming on board."

"It's not official yet," Knicks star Carmelo Anthony told reporters this morning. "But, I mean, you can always use Phil Jackson's insight, or whatever."

Jackson, winner of 11 NBA titles as head coach of the Chicago Bulls and the Los Angeles Lakers, is expected to have the deal finalized by the end of this week.

The Knicks, one of the league's biggest disappointments this season, would be Jackson's first foray into the NBA front office.

In addition to his 11 titles as a head coach, Jackson played on a pair of NBA title-winning teams (1970 and 1973) with the Knicks.

One of the first orders of business for Jackson in rebuilding this Knicks franchise will  be figuring out what to do with Anthony who may opt out of his contract this summer and become a free agent.

Anthony has not indicated which way he's leaning on that matter -- at least not publicly -- but at the very least he appears to be intrigued by the idea of Jackson taking over the team's basketball operations.

"His philosophy, his mindset, his resume, what he brings to the game, what he brings to the team, to the organization. That goes without even saying," Anthony said. "So we'll see how that plays out. It's different now if he's in the front office, rather than coaching. It's a big difference. So, we'll see how it plays out."

Anthony added, "you can't take for granted what he knows. The game of basketball, whether he's on the sideline or in the front office. I'm pretty sure he'll try his best to do whatever he has to do to try to build a championship here, a championship team."

And while Anthony and Jackson are sure to communicate with one another soon after the deal is finalized, if not sooner, the veteran forward said the addition of Jackson won't have an impact on what he decides to do this summer.

"Like I said, I haven't talked to Phil yet," Anthony said. "Just to get his insight on things. What's his plans, what's his future plans? Because you know everything is in his hands now?"
