If it's up to Shawn Thornton, he'll stay with the Bruins longer than the one remaining season left on his deal.

Speaking with WEEI.com on Wednesday, the Bruins fourth-line enforcer expressed his desire to continue on his hockey career after his deal expires - and he wants to do so with the B's.

“I’ve got this year. I’m going to worry this year,” Thornton told WEEI.com. “Hopefully it works out and obviously I’d like to play another year or two at least, and preferably with the Bruins, but that stuff’s kind of out of my hands.”

Thornton, who is entering his seventh season with the Bruins, has become one of the leader's in the locker room over the years, and is a proven veteran on and off the ice.

He finished with a plus-1 of 3 goals and 4 assists while tallying 60 penalty minutes in last year's shortened season.

His best season came in 2010, when the Bruins won the Cup. Thornton finished the regular season plus-8 with 10 goals and 10 assists.
