WINNIPEG -- It looks like the kid is going to get a legitimate shot to see what he can do.

After serving as Providence’s leading point (45) and assist (33) man in his first full pro season, 21-year-old Spooner was centering Milan Lucic and Nathan Horton during line rushes at Tuesday’s morning skate at the MTS Centre.

Spooner was brought up on emergency recall Monday in light of David Krejci’s injured right knee, and led the team’s post-practice skate on the Winnipeg ice in anticipation of his second-career NHL game. Spooner played five plus minutes in a game against the Montreal Canadiens back in February, but he’ll get a legitimate look in a top-six center role with accomplished power forward wings against the Jets Tuesday night.

Claude Julien confirmed they’ll start the game with the slick play-making Spooner among the top forward combination, and then see where it takes them.

“We’re giving him an opportunity to be a real good centerman playing between some really good players,” said Claude Julien. “He’s a great play-maker, so it’s a great chance for Spoons to take and we’ll see how it works out."

“If it’s not working out then we can make some changes, but we’ve seen him enough to think he’ll be a good fit there.”

The rest of the forward lines will have a familiar look as it’s clear the B’s head coach didn’t want to break up the red hot line of Patrice Bergeron, Brad Marchand and Tyler Seguin that’s been so good together this season. Here are the line combos of D pairings from morning skate:
