The NHL has spoken: Shawn Thornton will get 15 games for his after-the-whistle knockout of Penguins' Brooks Orpik.

Is it too many games? Is it too little game? That depends who you ask.

The people who know Thornton - a first-time offender - know he's not one of the bad guys that roam the NHL.

Boston Globe columnist Bob Ryan joined Michael Holley on Sports Sunday to discuss the suspension and Thornton.

'He's a well-respected guy who always seemed to understand the parameters of what being a team resident enforcer is all about," Ryan said. "He crossed the boundary. I guess maybe it's a message thing. I'm not shocked though [at the suspension length], I'm really not. It got too much publicity, it's just too over the top ugly. It looked too UFC-ish, that's what it reminded me of - pounding a defenseless guy.

"I just feel so badly for him for having that momentary lapse, because we all know that he is a quality guy."
