The Penguins' Matt Cooke is back in the news for all the wrong reasons, having checked Bruins defenseman Adam McQuaid into the boards face first in Game 1. Cooke was kicked out of the game, but there will be no further punishment.
CSNNE.com Bruins Insider Joe Haggerty thinks that's the right decision by the NHL.
"I think they did make the right call for a few different reason," Haggerty said. "When you talk to league officials and department of player safety people they'll tell you a few different things. When a guy gets a game misconduct at the beginning of a second period in a playoff game, that's a very signifaint opunishment. They view it that way. There was zero injury to Adam McQuaid there."
"I think the past history is out the window because it was more than 18 months ago that Matt Cooke was suspended for anything, so he's not viewed as a repeat offender in their eyes."
