The flu bug has hit the Bruins and Calgary Flames over the last two days as the B’s get ready for Jarome Iginla’s homecoming at the Saddledome in Cowtown, and it would appear at least one B’s player may miss the game. Providence Journal hockey scribe Mark Divver is reporting that veteran NHL journeyman forward Nick Johnson has been called up to the Bruins, and is on his way to Calgary in time for tonight’s tilt vs. the Flames.

Zdeno Chara, Kevan Miller, Gregory Campbell, and Chad Johnson were all sent back to the Bruins team hotel instead of practicing on Monday after developing flu-like symptoms, and Johnson’s recall might hint at Campbell’s status for the game being in question. One player that might be ready to return to the lineup is Johnny Boychuk, who missed two games with a sprained lower back suffered last week in a scary incident with Max Pacioretty.

Boychuk wasn’t quite as enthusiastic about his possible return against the Flames, and told reporters: “I didn't feel awesome. [I] haven't skated in, what, five days. At least I got out there and moved around and got back on the ice.”

It’s telling that the Bruins didn’t recall any more defensemen from the Providence Bruins right along with versatile forward Nick Johnson, who was one of the best B’s players and the final forward cut during NHL training camp. Johnson has 11 goals and 20 points in 23 games for the Providence Bruins along with a plus-7 rating, and has been one of the AHL club’s most consistent performers this season.
