Report: B's make extension offers to ‘Merlot Line', Kelly

The Bruins took care of one defenseman earlier this week, signing Johnny Boychuck to a three-year, 3.6 million contract.

But they aren't done.

The B's have made contract extension offers to four other players -- center Chris Kelly, right-winger Shawn Thornton, center Gregory Campbell, and left-winger Daniel Paille.

All four guys will be unrestricted free agents at the end of the season, and it's clear now that the B's are at least interested in keeping them around.

Thornton, Campbell, and Paille make up the Bruins' "merlot" line, the name given to the fourth-liners by Shawn Thornton last season due to the maroon-colored practice jerseys worn by the line.

TSN's Bob Mackenzie first reported via Twitter.

On the season, Kelly has 14 goals and 12 assists, and is plus-22.

Thornton is the Bruins enforcer, and one of the leaders in the locker room. He has four goals and seven assists, and is plus-1.

Campbell has six goals and seven assists, and is plus-6.

Paille has nine goals and five assists, and is plus-4.

Details of the offers have not been reported.
