Horton suffers setback, back to square one

BOSTON -- Nathan Horton has suffered a setback in a recovery thats growing long from what was termed a mild concussion in its immediate aftermath.

Horton has missed 19 days and six games wrapped around the All-Star break after suffering a head shot at the hands of Flyers forward Tom Sestito in Philadelphia on Jan. 22, and hasnt been seen on the ice since. Horton attempted to skate on his own last weekend after working on the exercise book Saturday, but Claude Julien indicated that his symptomsincluding headachesreturned.

Hes been pulled back. Hes got some symptoms so hes been pulled back. Thats why I say that its hard for me to stand up every day with steps forward or steps backward. So hes back to square one and were giving him some time here. Those symptomsonce he got back on the icethey came back.

This certainly raises a red flag in Hortons recovery given that A) its his second significant concussion in the last eight months and B) it took him months to finally feel like himself on the ice this season despite a full summer off-season to fully heal.

In the interim Rich Peverley will continue to skate in Hortons spot and provide a different speedhands look than the straight power forward scorer role previously occupied by Horton. There is no timetable on when hell attempt to skate again.
