Chiarelli won't rule out big deadline deal

The Bruins looked good in Wednesday night's 4-2 win over the Blues. But they looked equally as bad in their 3-0 loss to the Wild just a few days before.

That inconsistency of late has been the real issue with the Bruins. Well, that and injuries.

The B's are thin at the forward spot right now, with Nathan Horton (concussion) and Rich Peverley (3rd degree MCL sprain) out for the foreseeable future. As the trade deadline approaches, the B's are looking to add a couple players to the team to make that final push towards the postseason and ultimately the Stanley Cup.

But will those deals be minor? Or will the B's make some serious noise? CSNNE.com Bruins Insider Joe Haggerty says not to expect anything big, but Bruins GM Peter Chiarelli was on 98.5 the Sports Hub on Wednesday, and basically said not to rule out anything.

Last year we talked about adding a couple more bodies and chemistry," Chiarelli said. "We were fortunate to get a couple of players that had addition years on their contracts and fit into our two-way system. I cant tell you those deals are out there. I would hope to add some depth and I cant dismiss the bigger deals, but the prices for rental players are through the roof right now. We paid a good amount last year to get some players inIm not saying we wont this yearbut theyre through the roof.

Price aside, the B's dealings would depend more on who they'd have to send back to the trade partner. There are a few obvious untouchables on the team (Seguin, Chara, etc.), but come playoff time, they'll need all hands on deck. They think Horton will be back in time, but it's better to be safe than sorry.

It certainly something that we would consider greatly. It is uncertain what will end up happening with Nathan, said Chiarelli. Ive been trying to add a forward and a (defenseman). Its always good to have depth, not just depth in the minors.
