*Interesting piece by Rob Rossi about the Pittsburgh Penguins breakout and the Boston Bruins forecheck, but one thing left out was the speedy B’s rookie defensemen’s impact on their skating speed. It was a big reason why Boston’s transition game was so much better against the Rangers after struggling against a fast Maple Leafs attack.

*The Pro Hockey Talk boys are seeing “the upside” in the 2013 season for the San Jose Sharks after they once again fell short of the Stanley Cup Finals. Sorry, but there isn’t a lot of upside for a talented hockey team that doesn’t look like it’s going to get over the hump.

*****

*The Ottawa Senators finally have something real to build after putting together an admirably tough season amid injuries and adversity.

*****

*There is a notion that the Bruins are starting on Friday night rather than Thursday because of the New Kids on the Block concerts at TD Garden. Not sure that was nearly as big a factor as NBC wanting to get Sid the Kid vs. the Bruins for prime time on Saturday night, as well as Hockey Night in Canada.

*****

*Mike Milbury and Keith Jones blast Joe Thornton after the Sharks once again come up short in the playoffs.

*****

*For something completely different: Justin Beiber getting confronted by Keyshawn Johnson after driving too fast through their gated community.

Song of the week: Seven Bridges Road from The Eagles. Saw somebody doing a cover of it on “The Voice” the other night, and was reminded of how great this song is.
