* A really interesting column from Alan Maki about the corporate decision behind naming NHL team captains, and the death of teammates actually voting for the leader with the “C” on the sweater.

* A group of Isles fans weigh in with Katie Strang about their likes and dislikes concerning the Barclays Center in Brooklyn after the Islanders played a game there last weekend.

* Dougie Hamilton’s older brother, Freddie Hamilton, is making a push for a roster spot with the San Jose Sharks.

* A recap of the line brawl between the Leafs and Sabres on Sunday night that will likely result in suspensions, fines and an awful lot of hurt feelings for the guy that Phil Kessel actually beat up.

* The New Jersey Devils coaching staff believes that Jaromir Jagr will be ready for the season opener, but he hasn’t actually been seen since he pulled himself off the ice 10 minutes into his first training camp practice.

* Canucks tough guy Zach Kassian is expecting to hear from the league after breaking Sam Gagner’s jaw with a slash to the face in their Saturday night tilt.

* For something completely different: This guy caught standing behind Neil Patrick Harris during one of his intros as the Emmys host was one of many goofs. They also went to an awkward Guy Smiley character for a weird interview with Bob Newhart immediately after a touching tribute from Rob Reiner to the late Jean Stapleton. It was such a sloppily directed production last night, but at least Breaking Bad won in the end.
