* The media in Edmonton is clamoring for former Bruins defenseman Andrew Ference to take over the captaincy with the Oilers. He’d be a really good choice for a young up and coming hockey club.

* It was an emotional and energetic start for the Montreal Canadiens as they opened up their exhibition schedule on Sunday.

* Here’s a preview of tonight’s Bruins-Canadiens preseason tilt from behind enemy lines in Montreal.

* Alex Ovechkin thinks that the NHL is singling him out with their stricter uniform regulations that involve a jersey tuck rule. It’s not to be confused with the Tom Brady tuck rule.

* Some ugliness with the Los Angeles Kings and Phoenix Coyotes in the preseason, and it appears that Paul Bissonnette might end suspended as a result of leaving the bench for an on-ice fracas. These two teams really haven’t liked each other much over the last few years.
* Jason Brough says that the signing of Tim Thomas by the Florida Panthers is a smart gamble, and I’d have to agree given their goaltending situation. For what it’s worth, it could go bad with him fairly quickly if the Panthers play as badly as they did last season. But then again goaltending was probably one of their biggest problem areas after making the playoffs two years ago.

* For something completely different: Here’s a review of last night’s Breaking Bad episode where all hell absolutely broke loose with Walter White.
