* The CBC Hot Stove crew debates the new helmet rules, and whether refs will start breaking up fights once a player’s helmet pops off in the middle of a fight.

* Dallas Eakins thinks the city and the fans should be angry with the Edmonton Oilers after a slow start to the season.

* Patrice Bergeron gives his thoughts about the Red Sox playoff beards during his regularly scheduled journal with ESPN.com.

* Ed Snider defends the culture of the Philadelphia Flyers while discussing today’s coaching change. I happen to think the Flyers owner is 100 percent correct. Philly has had some pretty good hockey teams over the last few years, and their defense was ruined when Chris Pronger got hurt. Goaltending has been the one bugaboo with them.

* The New York Post’s Larry Brooks says now is the time to outlaw fighting from the NHL. I say ‘No, it’s not.’ Brooks is one of several media members that have executed a crazy flip-flop when it comes to hockey fights over the last couple of years.

* There’s no fluff in this story about Winnipeg Jets defenseman Dustin Byfuglien, and his towering size and style of play.

* For something completely different: Bill Barnwell talks about the futile ballad of Tony Romo among other things.
