WILMINGTON -- It was pretty clear the Bruins were suffering through some defensemen injuries when Kevan Miller was recalled from the AHL, and on Tuesday morning it was learned exactly what was going on. Adam McQuaid and Torey Krug were both absent from the practice ice at Ristuccia Arena on Tuesday morning, and their availability for Thursday vs. Montreal has to be in question based on Miller’s presence.

McQuaid had played in three games after missing the previous eight contests with a lower body injury, and registered the lowest ice time total of any B’s defensemen with under 14 minutes in their Saturday win over Columbus. The chances are decent that McQuaid might have re-aggravated an injury that he’d never previously had before in his career.

Krug absorbed a couple of heavy hits – including one from Nick Foligno late in the weekend win over Columbus that took a few seconds to shake off -- that might be contributing to his absence on Tuesday.

Miller played in three games while McQuaid and Dennis Seidenberg came back from injuries over the last couple of weeks, and quickly earned the B’s coaching staff’s trust as a reliable, stay-at-home defenseman. With Krug and McQuaid both missing from the practice ice, here are the lines and D-pairings from Tuesday practice in the middle of a five day stretch with no games:
