LAS VEGAS, NV Longtime actor Ray Liotta may have landed the final parting shot on Bruins goaltender Tim Thomas at the NHL Awards ceremony at the Wynn Casino and Resort on Wednesday night.
The hockey-loving thespian famous for Goodfellas and Field of Dreams among other classic flicks was presenting for the Vezina Trophy as one of the final awards of the evening. Before Liotta announced New York Rangers goaltender Henrik Lundqvist as the deserving Vezina Trophy winner, he jokingly said that the league had hoped the erstwhile Bs goaltender would help present the goaltending award.
Here comes the punch line.
"We wanted Tim Thomas to help us present the Vezina but we couldn't wait 12 months, said Liotta, of the Bs Vezina Trophy winner prior to Lundqvist picking up the honors.
The actor was, of course, referring to Thomas retreating to his home in Colorado and opting to sit out the 2012-13 hockey season to spend more connecting with friends, family and faith rather than playing with the Bruins.
Who knew he was such a comedian? Or perhaps a very spurned Boston Bruins fan?
The joke was delivered to complete silence from the NHL crowd in attendance at the awards, but its hard to tell if they didnt think it was funny or just werent sure if it was actually a joke.
