The NHL will be without one of its superstars for the foreseeable future as Lightning center Steven Stamkos broke his right tibia in Monday's game against the Bruins.

Stamkos stayed back in Boston on Tuesday and underwent successful surgery this afternoon to stabilize the fracture. He is expected to return to Tampa Bay immediately to rehab, but it is unknown how long the recovery process will be.

Stamkos had 14 goals and 9 assists going into Monday's game for the first-place Lightning.
