Khudobin could challenge Turco

EL SEGUNDO, CAThe Bruins goaltending situation could get a little more complicated.

While Tim Thomas has righted the ship, posting a .942 save percentage in his last three games for the Bruins, the 37-year-old has also played in 14 consecutive games dating back to the middle of February before Tuukka Rask went down with a groin injury. Marty Turco hasnt seen any action since getting pulled after giving up four goals in the first four minutes of a loss to the Tampa Bay Lighting, and he may have some competition for Thomas backup spot.

Providence Bruins goaltender Anton Khudobin, who would have received the promotion to Boston instead of a Turco signing had he been healthy, is back in the AHL lineup on Friday night after missing time with a left wrist injury. He got the start against the Manchester Monarchs and could push for a shot with Boston if he proves to be healthy and effective.

Khudobin had been practicing this week with the P-Bruins while recovering from soreness in his wrist, and hes clearly stepping it up by getting back into game action.

The 27-year-old Kazakhstan has a .919 save percentage and a 2.60 goals against for the Providence Bruins in 40 games this season, and has six games of NHL experience for the Minnesota Wild.

If Turco were to be placed into the lineup and stumbled again, it could be Khudobin getting the next nod for some much-needed relief work for Thomas.

Khudobin could also enter into the mix for the Bruins playoff roster if Rask is slow to return from the groinabdomen strain that was expected to keep him out of commission until right around playoff time.
