It appears that things might be going down for the Bruins sooner rather than later with the April 3 trade deadline still roughly a week away. It looks like 24-year-old Matt Bartkowski and 19-year-old Russian center Alex Khokhlachev were both made healthy scratches for the Boston Bruins and Providence Bruins respectively on Wednesday night.
Bartkowski and former first round pick Jordan Caron have both been linked prominently together in potential trade talks with the Edmonton Oilers where veteran offensive defenseman Ryan Whitney and big Swedish forward Magnus Paajarvi are being eyed as potential trade pieces coming to Boston.
Ales Hemsky appears to also be in the mix in a potential deal with the Oil, but that would involved the B’s taking on some money and term.
CSNNE.com has confirmed that the Bruins have indeed engaged in trade discussions with the Oilers about Whitney and a forward in a package deal coming to Boston, and both Caron and Bartkowski have been involved in those trade talks. Likewise Khokhlachev was the piece – along with a second round pick – that the Bruins offered to the Dallas Stars in exchange for Brenden Morrow before he was dealt to the Penguins. It appears that package along with another ‘B’ level prospect might be the trade package offered to the Calgary Flames in exchange for 35-year-old superstar Jarome Iginla.
The timing with Iginla might that the trade goes down with Calgary after the captain gets one last home game on Wednesday against the Colorado Avalanche to play in front of the Flames fans he’s entertained for the last 16 years.
So there’s a chance that Iginla, Whitney and Paajarvi could all be coming into the Boston fold prior to the April 3 deadline in the kind of roster boost the Bruins will need prior to the playoffs.
