While Jarome Iginla won’t be playing for the next 2 ½ weeks during the Olympic break, he did go out with a bang for the Boston Bruins before the NHL regular season went into a recess.

Iginla was named the No. 3 Star by the NHL for last week when he put up two goals and seven points in the final four games before the break, and finished with a plus-5 rating while running red-hot with David Krejci and Milan Lucic. Olympian goalies Carey Price and Kari Lehtonen were the first and second star of the week ahead of the Bruins’ veteran right winger.

Iginla registered 2-3—5 and a +5 rating to power the Bruins to five out of a possible six points, stretching their lead in the Atlantic Division to seven points over the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Iginla posted a goal and an assist, including his third game-winning goal of the season and his 600th career assist, in a 3-1 victory over the Vancouver Canucks on Feb. 4. In some ways the Olympic break is coming at the worst possible time for Iginla, who finished with 14 points and five multi-point performances over his past eight outings. But that performance did give everybody a glimpse into the kind of extra gear the 36-year-old still has when it gets to playoff time this spring with the Boston Bruins.
